gauss blur
what is it?
this iMovie plug-in can blur your clip using the 'gaussian' method of blurring (which looks more natural than other blur methods). however, our plug can do more than just blur your clip. it's features include:
selectively blur only part of your clip
independent values for horizontal and vertical blur!
blur sizes from 5x5 to 50x50 pixels
special, experimental finite-state machine algorithm (as if you cared...)
WARNING gauss blur algorithms are a proven method for humbling your processor(s), and are not suitable for people faint of heart. although we use above mentioned experimental (read: cool) finite-state algorithm for blurring (which gives us a 2x-5x speed boost over more traditional algorithms), the plug-in is a CPU hog. so if you want to 50x50 gaussblur your mother-in-law from your half-hour wedding video, make sure have the time - or one of those super-clusters.
what should I use it for? use this plug-in whenever you need to ‘unsharpen’ (i.e. blur) a part of your clip, be it for special effects (for further post-production), soft horizontal or vertical motion blur, to protect the guilty, or to help focus other parts of your clip.
features
area of effect this is the area that the effect will work on. everything outside this area will be unaffected. when live preview is switched on, you'll immediately see the result of the effect inside the rectangle.
to re-size, click and drag the rectangle's handles. to move it, click and drag inside the rectangle itself.
select all pressing this button will select the whole clip's surface as the active area
horizontal gauss blur can be applied vertically and horizontally independently. this slider controls the horizontal blur radius from 5x5 to 50x50
vertical gauss blur can be applied vertically and horizontally independently. this slider controls the vertical blur radius from 5x5 to 50x50
live preview when checked, the effect will be applied in real-time to the current frame.
warning: gauss-blurring is a very processor-intensive effect. be sure to have a powerful mac when using live preview!
movie slider, forward, backward use this slider to pre-view the current clip. all blurring is applied in real-time. dragging the slider allows you to quickly move through the whole clip. to fine-select the frame want, use the forward ('>') and backward ('<') buttons. these buttons allow you to step through the clip frame by frame.
